How I found my way in the blogging world – Facebook & Pinterest
If you write it – they will come??? Not so much.
How I found my way in the blogging world – Facebook & Pinterest is all about how I’ve managed to get a couple of visitors to my blog and how you can do it too.
If you don’t know yet – Planned Pretty is a really (really) new blog just started in October 2016. You can read about why I started the blog, how I came up with my niche, how easy it is to get it all setup, and what the first month was really like here. I even developed my very own blog planner and customized it to meet the needs of both my blog and my other business that I run from home. I love all things planner, so this was a great part of the process for me! But, at the end of the day, the blog is about content. It’s about the writing that shares and tries to help others. It’s about being part of a community of people.
I have been writing on a schedule from the very beginning. I’ve been developing content and printables and doing my best to share everything that works for me and also to learn about what works for other people. But, where were the people who are going to read and share what works for them? The community? The tribe?
You have to find your people.
No one is going to just show up at your blog and hang out. Well, I guess this could happen for some, but for the most part – uh uh. It just doesn’t work that way. You have to go “out” and find your readers. Facebook is a great place to start.
Facebook groups are the best!
There is a group for anything and everything you can imagine. There are groups dedicated to sharing best practices and support for beginner bloggers. There are groups for promoting your blog posts. Groups for developing your blog presence on other social media outlets are also available. You can find anything and everything on Facebook. The group members are more than willing and happy to visit your blog and talk with you about any questions you have. They are also there to simply encourage you and be encouraged as well. There are also some groups you have to pay to be a part of, but I’m not in any of those. While I’m sure, they have a lot to offer I just haven’t felt like I need to pay to play yet. Especially when there is so much out there for free.
Here is a list of the top 5 groups I’m currently a part of and love:
- Pinterest Group Boards – this is where you find Pinterest groups you might be interested in joining
- Blog Life – tips, tricks, and posts from bloggers all over the world
- Naptime Nation – everyone is so supportive of everyone else
- The Blog Loft – lots of sharing and support
- The SITS Girls – specializes in providing the best in quality blogger education and support
There are so many more groups – but these are the ones I visit most often. These groups provide about 25% of the traffic to my blog, and I so appreciate each and every visitor.
Pinterest sends the other 75% of traffic to my blog.
I’ve always loved Pinterest – way before I was a blogger. I love everything about it. From the way you can organize your pins to boards to pinning things from all over the web, Pinterest is fantastic. It is even more so for bloggers.
As I research and learn more about blogging, I notice most bloggers talk about Pinterest. Obviously, there had to be something to it, so I set out to find out why it is so great for blogging. I took an online class on Pinterest (Pinning Perfect) and learned that the platform is more of a search engine than anything else. Wow. I never thought of it that way – but yes, it is more of a search engine. When I go to Pinterest, I am almost always looking for inspiration, something to do or something to buy. I’m searching. And let me tell you, I can get caught up in it for hours and hours. Maybe you do too?
Now, when I visit Pinterest, I’m also looking to share instead of just search.
By pinning my stuff, I have created significant traffic to the blog. Maybe it is even how you got here? But more importantly, I am pinning all the stuff I find from other awesome bloggers. Other peoples’ stuff is my favorite part. Pinterest makes it so easy to spread great stuff from all kinds of bloggers who are doing great things. And, maybe others will find my stuff useful and pin it too.
There are so many great Pinterest tips and tricks that I couldn’t possibly list them all here, and I’m still tracking things to find out what works the best. I’ll be sure to let you know when I get it all figured out. I will tell you Tailwind has been key thus far and I’m looking forward to sharing all the details soon.
If you’re looking for ways to grow you blog traffic make certain you are active in Facebook groups and Pinterest. They have done so much for me, and I know they can do the same for you!
So, come check out the stuff I have on Pinterest now. I have boards dedicated to all things organizing, planning, decorating, and printables. Leave me a link to your Pinterest in the comments. I would love to see what you’re pinning too.
