I am a very logical person, well, almost all of the time. (Except for when I occasionally lose my sh*t -because stuff happens. I’m human. Whatever – back on track…)
I think in order, or more accurately, I have a process to put my thoughts in order that works really, really well.
So, once I had determined what my niche was I needed to take the next step.
The next step was to determine if I was going to self host my blog or use one of the free blogging platforms.
I weighed the pros and cons to both. Free is always enticing and using a free blogging platform is super accessible because much of the set up is done for you. You can almost just sit down and start writing. Easy peasy. But also limited and not totally free.
With free blogging sites you are limited in how you can customize your site
Free sites only have a few free themes to choose from. You have to pay for features you might think would be included because most of the good plugins have a cost associated with them just like the good themes do.
Most importantly, to me, they just don’t look as professional as I want.
I had done so much research to figure out how I wanted to set up my blog and I had a good idea of what I wanted it to look like. Sadly, I just couldn’t make that happen with a free blogging site.
I began looking into self hosting options.
I knew I needed something with excellent customer support because I don’t have coding skills to manage on my own. And, I wanted something that is cost effective. While I am willing to pay a small fee it has to make sense for my budgetbecause I cannot just dish out lots of dollars to write for free. And, I also wanted something that I can grow with as my blog grows. Because I think positive like that – this thing is going to grow, right?
Of all the options available I chose Bluehost.
It fit all my needs at a super low price and offered a free domain. Win! This is the plan I went with because I feel like it is the perfect fit for where I’m at with my blog. If you use my link you can get it for only $3.45 a month.
Now, I had my niche nailed down, and I had hosting decided too so I felt like I was really on track.
All I needed was my domain…..
I typed what I wanted in the search bar and no one was using it! Yay! Wait – what’s that? Not. So. Fast.
While no one was using the domain I wanted it wasn’t exactly available either because it had been purchased by a broker. It was being offered for sale for only $3,995. Yep, damn near four thousand dollars. Ummm….no, thanks for the offer.
I didn’t even know domain brokering was a thing. Now I know.
I went back and forth with all different variations of what I wanted in my domain. As I was going through the process I understood the whole underlying concept of my blog is planning and making things pretty – and planning to make things pretty – because that’s how I get things done.
PlannedPretty.com was available. No broker. No silly (stupid) exorbitant fee. Just available. It was meant to be.
So, here I am – at PlannedPretty. com – self hosting my site via Bluehost – and planning an organized pretty life.
